Where have you been, K-H?

No. This isn’t a dead blog. It’s just been idle for a while because I’ve been doing other things:

  • Acting under wifie’s directions while we took advantage of unseasonally mild weather to clear and plant another chunk of our 2-1/2 hectare plot. With luck, we’ll soon have a fine display of bulbs, shrubs and fruit trees. Oh, and I had to get the starter motor on my Chinese tractor fixed in time to flail part of the land before the brambles, thistles and other nasties reclaimed it.
  • Setting up a CafePress ‘Desert Race’ shop to sell t shirts, hoodies, caps, buttons, mugs and other things printed with photos I took at the Kalahari 1000Km Desert Race in Botswana. I thought a few people might like to be a little different from the crowd at US and European events. We’ll see.
  • Planning a new site, about the tarot cards. Did you realise that you can’t play card games with the packs fortune tellers use? Part of the necessary information is missing. Did you also realise that some tarot collectables sell at around US2,500 dollars? And over the years artists have produced some truly beautiful designs. I’ll never be short of things to write about tarot. I’ve only just bought the domain tarotstuff.com , so you won’t find anything there until later in March 2002

I’ve also taken a serious step towards becoming part of my local French community.I accepted an invitation to join a group running for election to the Commune council in the 9 March elections. This is the first time in 13 years that the current gang have had anyone oppose them, so we’re creating a bit of a stir. I’ll tell you all about it in a week or so (it’s quite likely that there will be a second round, to fill the remaining places after the vote dilution of the first round failed to get sufficient votes for all 15 positions).

I was feeling quite pleased about being chosen, until I asked why:

” We needed someone who was registered to vote, not a French national, and old. You were the only person to fit the bill…”

However, they did say that they followed up by asking around to see if people thought I was a decent sort of chap, so I suppose I should be grateful for that.

  1. I can’t wait to see the beginner’s guide to lock gates, as we have 230-odd of them here on the Nantes-Brest canal, And we are going to do the navigable bits by boat when we have walked the lot!

  2. Hi, G. By the time you’ve done that, you’ll have collected enough material for two books. I have to admit that I’ve never actually done any canal boating, although I have a technical and historical interest in locks. I’ll be interested in any photos and/or comments you care to offer.
