Artemis Ocean Racing notified me of the latest input from Jonny Malbon, in which he announces his decision to head south and find his own hole through the dodrums rather than joining the queuefor the turnstile. You can read the whole post at jonnymalbon.com.
I spent a bit more time finding my way around yachtpals.com , and joining the groups of every Vendee Globe skipper that has one, plus a few others. After that, I started checking out some of the videos and photos. Here’s a selection of the best I’ve found so far:
First, if you want to know a bit about what the nav station of an Ocean 60 provides to keep Vendée Globe skippers busy and connected when they’re not on deck, let Mike Golding show you.
And now, for a bit of light relief, take a look at
Sam Davies’ blog post about going longboarding earlier this year.
Now, to take our minds off the headaches skippers are probably suffering from as they search for ways through the ‘Pot au Noir’, let see Mike Golding again:
I wish I could have shown that video to my company nurse many years back. She asked me what regular exercise I took, and I told her I raced sailing dinghies (a Laser, at the time). She told me that sailing wouldn’t give me proper exercise, and recommended that I take the dog for a walk every day. It aws a waste of time trying to explain to her, and she didn’t have any equipment I could use to demonstrate, so I just nodded.
And now, to close, take a look at Steve White’s cheerful blog account of his autopilot failure the the night before last.
