Thomas Coville Ahead of Vendée Fleet
No near misses. Coville in the Trimaran Sodeb’O must have gone through the Vendée leaders in the night. His last reported position - 42°27S 16°30E - is on a latitude a little south of Gitana Eighty (Loïc Peyron) and Britair (Armel le Cleac’h) but north of Seb Josse (BT) and his little group. However, Coville is nearly south of Capetown, on 16°30E versus leader Seb Josse on 8°47E. The Vendée leaders are in rising winds, but Covile’s wind is dropping fast - it dropped from F8 to F6 in the last ten minutes.
Coville’s trip south was slow compared with record holder Mich’ Desj’s 2006 record - he’s currently 644 miles behind - so he’ll be looking for strong winds in the southern ocean to drive him on.
