I remember Thomas Coville’s departure on a transatlantic record trip a while ago: walking down the dock, talking to reporters over his shoulder, slinging a duffel bag aboard and setting straight off. I thought that was pretty relaxed at the time, but this takes some beating:
Did you notice even the slightest hesitation during the middle of his conversation, roughly translated as ‘Conditions are not that easy, to be honest, with a strong cross sea – whoops, we did a little nosedive, but we’re on our way now…’
If it weren’t for the easy, cheerful chat style, I’d have called him Iceman. I guess he’s done so many thousands of miles in Sodebo in all conditions that he trusts her completely.
