Maybe not – it could become a signature, like Dilbert’s manager’s hair. Now, if I could find a competent cartoonist, I could get myself a distinctive avatar made up.

My voice itself is acceptable, I guess, but my control of it isn’t too good. Could be worse, I suppose, since there are only a couple of serious tailing-off mumbles.

Many years ago, the instructor on a presentation course did his best to cure me. Our classroom was only separated from a hotel dining room by a thick velvet curtain – he told me that if I didn’t speak up he would make me give my presentation from the other side of the curtain.

That frightened me enough for some of the lesson to stick.
